Winter Cold Plunging...Could you do it?
The Okanagan's first and only floating sauna with a cold plunge experience is located in the heart of downtown Kelowna!
Have you ever considered doing a cold plunge in the middle of winter? That’s precisely what we did in January! Löyly floating sauna and cold plunge is a new experience in the Okanagan Valley inspired by so many others around the world but most notably the Finnish tradition. Löyly itself is a Finnish word meaning spirit, life but also sauna steam.
As someone who truly hates the cold I was fearful that I wouldn’t be able to get in the Okanagan lake after a hot steam but I did just that. It wasn’t without its difficulties. They recommend you stay in for 2 minutes. The bitting cold started to nip at my shins and toes the most making it almost painful. I lasted about 20 seconds.
You can watch the full experience here and read about out tips for first timers.

Have you seen this yet?
We explored the Penticton food scene - 24 hours of eating in Penticton coming at ya March. We loved experiencing 3 cocktail bars and highly recommend adding them to your itinerary next time you’re in town!
Also, don’t you just hate when people ask you to go to a chain restaurant?
In all of our guides and itineraries we avoid recommending and visiting chain restaurants. While they provide convenience- you know what you’re gonna get no matter where you are in the country or the world… but what is the point of visiting a chain especially when you’re travelling?
Why not do something more interesting and check out the locally owned and operated restaurants bars and mom n’ pop shops that need your support? Sure it might take a little bit more work to find them but trust me it is so worth it!
you’re not only gaining a perspective on the food scene of the place you are in during this specific moment in time, but also a glimpse into its past and potential future.
When you spend your money at a locally owned restaurant, that money goes back into the community.
So when someone asks you, where did you eat? You will have a story to tell them about this hidden gem!
Do we break our own rules sometimes? Absolutely, I mean, especially when travelling with kids or picky eaters. But nine times out of 10 you’ll find us at the most amazing local places, eating seasonal dishes, inspired by our local produce. So in the end you are eating a true reflection of the place that you are visiting. You are really travelling!

Call us the kiss of death. Nearly 40% off the business owners we interviewed on our podcast The Okanagan Food Show closed their locations. So we decided to shut down that podcast as renew Foodietown’s podcast here where I will be covering a wider range of topics, destinations and tips. Another reason we love Substack…the free podcast hosting!
