This summer has been busy. As I talk to others in work and personal exchanges it seems many have been booking up their summers with getaways and road trips. Has this been your experience? Where have you been this season? Hit ‘reply’ and tell me, I’d love to know or vote below.
This summer has brought me to Whistler and Revelstoke. You can find my Whistler adventures in the video low. Revelstoke video is coming soon!
I had a trip to Banff planned but I ended up opting for a more affordable staycation in wine country.

Why did I cancel the iconic trip to Banff?
The more research I did the more I realized I would need more than 3 nights away to enjoy and explore Banff. Since it is my anniversary weekend, we want relaxation. The best way to get this (for us) is by going somewhere familiar where you’re not trying to milk every second of each day. In Naramata, our favourite place in the valley that we’ve been umpteen times, we go back for the slower pace, the lake, the food and the sense of calm. The wine doesn’t hurt either;)
I am so excited to be staying in an Airbnb on a local lavender farm and orchard. The views are epic and you’ll be sure to see the experience on my Instagram and YouTube channels (foodietownca & lifeinwinecountry).
If you’re looking for something special to do in your province we’ve rounded up a list of fantastic Sunflower Festival locations throughout most of Canada. Click the image below to watch the Instagram reel for all the locations! Did we miss on you particularly love? Tell us in the comments!
Plans for September
I am heading to the Okanagan Feast of Fields! Will you be there? Definitely say hello!
My sister and I also run The Okanagan Food Show Podcast and we are scheduling season 3. Our podcast, like so many, began during the pandemic. It was a way for us to talk about the places and people we love in the Okanagan with the occasional road trip and guest.
Listen to our interview with Brandi of Empire Crepes below or wherever you get your podcasts - search The Okanagan Food Show. This week Brandi lost her daughter to an accidental overdose. Please consider donating to their GoFundMe page to help bring her daughter home.
This year we won Best of Kelowna, silver, second year in a row. We were stunned. Especially since we had taken a bit of a hiatus. We’ve decided to pursue season 3 because our food scene is changing. Our very first guests on the show are closing shop and looking to move to another city. Another 3 guests closed shop at the beginning of this year. It’s tough to see. These places and people added a lot to our food scene.
It has taught us a lot about our city and its growing pains. But also about the changing tastes of the general public since the end of the pandemic. We plan to explore these themes, as well as invite some guests that I am very excited to interview including a Ukrainian family who fled war and set up a store downtown Kelowna providing Ukrainian specialties to-go.
I visited yesterday and put their food to the test with my 5 and 2 year old. My 5 year old loved their ham and cheese crepes while my 2 year old enjoyed the cottage cheese and herbed perogies.
As a descendent of Ukrainian immigrants from 1913, I really do look to support Ukrainian families trying to establish a life in my community.
Our food scene, albeit small and perhaps less diversified, is a tight knit community that largely supports each other.
Can't wait to try the Ukrainian spot!
